Will sealing my ducts lower the electric bill by a set amount?

We do not quote a percentage savings. Leaking ducts waste air you already paid to heat or cool. How much that changes the bill depends on how bad the leaks are and how the system runs. We can show you the leaks. We will not invent a savings number.

Do you replace the whole duct system?

We replace damaged runs and add runs the house is missing. A full replacement is quoted when so much of the system is crushed, undersized, or disconnected that repairing it piece by piece does not make sense.

Is duct repair the same as duct cleaning?

No. Repair and sealing fix leaks, disconnects, and damaged duct. Cleaning removes debris from the inside. A house can need one, the other, or both. We will say which one we are proposing.

Leaks, disconnects, and crushed flex

In many Arlington attics the supply runs are flex duct. Heat and foot traffic kink it, the inner liner tears, and the connection at the boot or the plenum comes loose. The equipment still runs. The room does not get the air.

We inspect the runs we can reach, including the plenums and the boots, and show you what is disconnected or crushed before quoting the repair. Replacing a damaged section is part of this work when a patch will not hold.

Sealing

Joints that leak at the plenum, the takeoffs, and the return box are sealed with mastic, not a strip of cloth tape that dries out in an attic. Sealing is worth doing when the ducts are intact and the air is escaping at the connections.

Sealing does not clean the inside of the duct, and it does not resize a system that was never large enough for the house. If the ducts are full of construction debris, that is a cleaning visit. If the equipment is failing, that is an AC or furnace repair.

New duct runs

When a remodel adds a room, or a run is too damaged to reuse, we install the new section and tie it into the existing trunk. That is quoted from what we can see in the attic, including access.

Cleaning is a separate service. If you want the dust removed rather than the leaks repaired, start with air duct cleaning.
